Duration: 1.5 hours 

22578VIC Course in First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis is a nationally recognised and accredited course for both the general public and workplaces that require first aid trained staff to respond to allergy and anaphylaxis emergencies. This course is specifically designed to satisfy the first aid requirements for schools and registered children's services. 

​Course Contents

  • Understanding allergies and anaphylaxis

  • Recognising signs and symptoms of allergy and anaphylaxis

  • Managing an anaphylaxis emergency

  • Using adrenaline injector devices (Epipen and Anapen)

  • Anaphylaxis policy and procedures in the workplace

  • Anaphylaxis risk management

Assessment

​22578VIC Course in First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis course includes both a theoretical and practical assessment component. Theory assessment includes:

  • Completion of the ASCIA e-learning module
  • Completion of the Learner workbook, which includes developing an individual anaphylaxis management plan, risk minimisation strategies, a communication plan and a staff briefing. The workbook also includes a short multiple choice knowledge assessment.

The practical assessment at the face to face session includes:

  • Responding to an anaphylactic emergency using ASCIA action plans and an Epipen/Anapen.

Foundation Skills

22578VIC includes the following types of skills as listed below, Note: If the training and assessment requires any tasks harder than this, and you feel unable to complete what is asked, we will support you through the training process.

You need to be able to:

  • Apply skills to different locations and casualties
  • Read and interpret labels on devices, signs and some documentation such as procedures and action plans
  • Provide a verbal report about the incident
  • Complete a basic written incident report
  • Speak with casualty, other staff and emergency services in English
  • Estimate weight to determine appropriate device to use
  • Count breaths
  • Tell time, e.g. when medication given

Outcomes

​On successful completion of this course, participants will be awarded a nationally recognised statement of attainment.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)

From 1 January 2015 when you attend a first aid course (nationally recognised training) you will need to have a USI.

A USI will give you access to your online USI account which will contain all your nationally recognised training records and results from 1 January 2015 onwards.

This is a requirement of the Australian Government Department of Industry.

Healthguard is a Registered Training Organisation and must comply with Government Legislation to maintain our registration. As of the 1 January 2015 we will be unable to issue you a Statement of Attainment for your course until you supply us with your USI.
